During the time Drive Alive is active on a users’ Smartphone, the app is monitoring for two key pieces of information. Most importantly the app is using GPS data to ensure the user running the app is actually driving and not just sitting at home. It accomplishes this by doing speed calculations based on periodic location checks, using the GPS. Simultaneously Drive Alive also keeps track of users’ cell phone activities other than Drive Alive. This is to ensure the user is not using their phone while driving.
If the app detected the desired result, meaning the user was actually driving and not doing anything distracting on their phone; Drive Alive then sends the trip data back to Drive Alive, LLC’s secure databases.
After that, Drive Alive, LLC works very hard to gather rewards from advocates against distracted driving and affiliated companies and sends those rewards to drivers who complete phone free trips using Drive Alive.
3092 people died as a result of cell phone related distracted driving accidents in 2011, and our goal is to secure enough sustainable and desirable rewards that we can entice a massive amount of drivers into driving safely in order to become eligible for these rewards.
New laws, emotional PSA’s, and other forms of discouragement and punishments are constantly showing up, but despite these efforts the problem continues to grow, and we feel that is because of the lack of a solid encouragement/positive reinforcement effort to stop cell phone use while driving, and Drive Alive, with your help, can change that. Make sure you checkout our affiliates and contributors pages to see the benefits of help us reach our goal.
